Starting Up Again In 2024

I’ve been watching a lot of spring training baseball.

I don’t usually do this.

Usually I’ll catch the first game, maybe the first couple, and kind of whet my appetite before turning my attention elsewhere until Opening Day.

But this year…I just keep watching.

I don’t quite understand it.

But I felt like writing about it.

Some of you may already know that for years I wrote about the Mets.

A little over a decade ago I stopped solely focusing on baseball (and football) and wrote about everything else happening in my life.

But in 2021 I got the itch to write about the Mets again, and that faded as the season faded.

I didn’t write in 2022, when the Mets had a season that was much more worth writing about…until they faded again in the final days of the regular season and into the playoffs.

And then last year I had my hopes up (as I usually do) and got a season ticket package (which I never did before) and they were very disappointing.

This year, I have my hopes up again. (This is what I do.) And I have the tickets again. (This is what I do now, maybe?)

And I want to write and share my reactions.

I honestly believe the Mets will be better than last year. (Which actually isn’t asking all that much.)

The question is, will ‘better’ be enough to keep them from being sellers at the trade deadline and being contenders in 2024 as well as 2025 and beyond, which was the plan that was revealed at last year’s trade deadline?

I think it is, and I’ll have a little season preview post coming up telling you why I feel the way I do.

Then we’ll get into how it’s going as the season progresses. Maybe I’ll get back into a couple of the ol’ live blogs while I watch a game, I’ll definitely share with you some of my cold takes….

Listen, I know there are other newer-fangled media through which I can do this type of thing, and I know there’s certainly many more options where you can (maybe) get better takes…but I think my point of view tends to be entertaining and writing is what I know. So maybe this leads to a podcast or videos or other ventures eventually, or not…but for me it’s just something to write about and enjoy doing, and hopefully I make it universal enough and related to life in general enough that it is enjoyable for you to read whether or not you care about the Mets.

We’re getting closer to the regular season…and I’m excited to chronicle it.
