Framingham Comedy Weekend
(Sunday Paper, Volume III, Issue 20)
I don't know whether or not you remember my New Year's Resolution (or at least one of my comedy goals for 2018)...but if you didn't click that link I'll remind you:
I was going to try to start a comedy show.
It's something I thought about often these first five months of the year....but hadn't done much acting on.
For a number of reasons, it's something that's way too easy to talk myself out of - but thanks to the help of someone talking me into it, we're going to give it a go.
Let's start with this - a couple of weeks ago I told you a little bit about what a great venue Amazing Things Arts Center is. The Executive Director there, Ellen, has been a big proponent of me getting a show going, and she held me accountable and recently connected me with Exhibit 'A' Brewery.
The result: we're going to have three shows this summer in downtown Framingham that we'll call "Framingham Comedy Weekend." It'll be Thursday, July 26th, at Exhibit 'A'; Friday, July 27th, at Depot 417; and Saturday, July 28th, at Amazing Things.
I'm excited about it - and for more reasons than just having comedy shows to perform on where I don't have to drive a half hour or more.
I'm getting the chance to book a couple of shows and do all the headache-inducing things that I've heard other comedians complain about that I had yet to experience. (I don't get headaches - I get intense anxiety.) My main worry - everyone will be away on vacation and no one will come to the shows.
But I'm heartened by how enthusiastic the people that I've asked to participate have been about it, and I know they'll be great shows. As long as people show up...which is where you come in. If you're in the area those days - they're going to be great shows. Come on out! Keep your eyes peeled for ticket information.
(I think you're also going to start to see some promotion happening around the downtown area...you are certainly free to start spreading the word wide and far.)
So far it's just these three shows...but I'm hoping one of them will turn into a regular occurrence. There are so many talented comedians out there that I would love to involve that we just can't fit into the three shows, so I'm hoping to have plenty of other opportunities to give them the chance to perform here in Framingham.
As for the picture above, that's an Exhibit 'A' beer. Some of you may remember when a friend of mine brought to my attention that they had a beer called 'Sunday Paper' - you'd better believe that was the first thing I tried when I made my way down there to check things out a couple of weeks ago.
It's a very good beer - maybe come out and have one on July 26th. (Or maybe just take home a four-pack like I did. It's a very strong beer.)
Comedy and Writing
*Sloooow week in the creativity department. The girls had dance recitals this weekend and there was a lot of rehearsal this week and that impacted the ol' schedule. Oh, and the show I was supposed to do Wednesday was postponed, so there was that too. But I thought up something fun to write about creatively, so we'll see how that goes. As for the week ahead, I'm hosting the show in Salisbury on Tuesday night, so that will be a good time if you happen to be up that way.
Notes
*Did you catch my podcast interview this week? Fun chat with a fellow Mets fan about my comedy, my work, and the Mets. You can listen to it at this link.
*(Speaking of the Mets: It's been a better-than-it-has-been-lately week for them, including an exciting walk-off win Saturday night. Time for me to get my hopes up again!)
*We're two-thirds of the way through the super-busy month of May...and I don't necessarily stress this point enough: It's really wonderful. We've had some nice family gatherings (with more on the way), and sure, there have been a ton of softball games, but it's a pleasure watching my girls play softball. I love it. And every year I look forward more and more to the dance recitals. I'll have to write more about that someday. But know that as bonkers as I may make May sound, I do enjoy the activities that make it so bonkers.
*Thanks to those of you who like the Facebook page or follow me on Twitter. (You too can Like the Facebook page by clicking "Like" at this link and follow me on Twitter by clicking here!) Sorry for those of you on Facebook who got an invite to Like the page recently. I didn't realize Facebook now sends a generic message along with that. You don't deserve a generic message, you deserve a specific, personalized message...or no message at all. But that's on me - I didn't realize the change until it was too late. Thanks for Liking it anyway, if you did so. Let me know if you want a specific message and I'll gladly write you one.
*Figured this was a good week to let you know about Framingham Comedy Week because this will be the last you'll hear from me for a bit. Next week we'll have a guest post, followed by the girls' takeover for the month of June. I'll see you in July, maybe the last week of June...except for the intro paragraphs for the guest posts.
