Glass Onion
One of my daughter’s teachers had her class watch some of ‘Knives Out’ recently.
They had read …And Then There Were None, and I think the movie was loosely based or inspired by the book?
Anyway, they didn't watch the complete movie, but she came home and watched the rest of it and then was interested in watching the second ‘Knives Out’ - which is called ‘Glass Onion’. (I believe its full title is ‘Glass Onion - A Knives Out Mystery’.) She asked if I wanted to watch it with her, and needing 365 days of content I jumped at the opportunity.
Just kidding - I also loved spending the quality time with my child.
(Funny enough, I remember watching ‘Knives Out’ with Kathy - I’m pretty sure we watched it during the pandemic…which is the setting for this movie. Also, my daughters seemed too young at that point to imagine them watching ‘Knives Out,’ for what that’s worth.)
The connection between the two movies is the Daniel Craig character, the world’s greatest detective.
As you might have guessed based on my ‘Wicked’ experience, I didn’t remember a whole lot about ‘Knives Out’ - which doesn’t matter when watching ‘Glass Onion’ other than the fact that you should know that I wrote this shortly after watching the movie so that I wouldn’t forget what I saw.
I do remember thinking ‘Knives Out’ was good, and the mystery was clever. The same is true of ‘Glass Onion’.
I think I’m a Rian Johnson fan. He's the writer/director, and looking at his other work it’s all stuff that’s pretty highly regarded. Maybe I should make a point of watching ‘American Fiction’ at some point this year - I remember being curious about that during awards season last year and now that I see it’s Rian Johnson’s I’m almost positive I’d enjoy it.
It’s impressive how well the movie flows - not a dull moment. And there were a lot of times where it was just two characters talking, explaining what was going on. I guess credit there goes to the actors too.
There were times a couple of years ago when I was trying to catch up on my lack of movie-watching that I would watch a movie and feel like I could have spent that time in a better way.
This was the opposite of that - a very enjoyable couple of hours.
I’m glad my daughter suggested it.
If I remember correctly, ‘Knives Out’ was supposed to be a trilogy.
I’m now looking forward to when number three comes out.
